PostSubject: The Bartimaeus Trilogy   Thu Feb 24, 2011 9:41 pm

How could we not have this here? Lately, I have discovered the Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud. I would recommend it for people who like Fantasy, magic and sarcastic spirits Razz

It is set in modern day London (how cliché...) but unlike the world of Harry Potter, Muggles, or commoners in this case, know about their existance and they CONTROL ALL OF LONDON AND THEIR HUGE EMPIRE!!! MUAHAHAHAHA!!! (>_>; ) The main characters are Bartimaeus, a djinni (genie in English (pronounced "jinni", the plural being djinn which is pronounced "gin")) of the Fourth level, and a magician called Nathaniel, John Mandrake or "Natty". The first book, The Amulet of Samarkand, is when the characters are first introduced and the world in which they inhabit. Bartimaeus is summoned by Nathaniel to steal the Amulet of Samarkand from a magician called Simon Lovelace who insulted Nathaniel. He wants revenge and his plan is to steal the Amulet and in a turn of events, imprison him (or something...). But, unknown to Nathaniel and Bartimaeus, Lovelace is determined to hold onto the Amulet because that in itself is part of a greater plan.... And who is this Resistance who hates magicians so much?

I'll let you guys find out the rest Very Happy

Enjoy and discuss here.

Thank you for posting this. I had read this a couple years back and couldn't for the life of me remember the series name. Yay! I can go reread this now.
Very Happy

Yay(: I too love this series, it is immensely original, very clever and infinitely amusing. Stroud manages to portray all his characters perfectly, whether or not we like them. Bartimaeus was my favourite, of course, if only because he was so funny. I like Nathaniel too, even if he was portrayed to be a bit of a noob.

Kitty POVs bored me to no end, but they were obviously a necessary aspect of the series. Was anyone else let down by the ending of Ptolemy's Gate? I mean, I loved it- but it nearly made me cry :/

I just think that the end of Ptolemy's Gate was weird. Oh well.

I still have your copy of the prologue...
